Constitution Hill Survives Scare, Wins Unibet Hurdle
Nico de Boinville and Constitution Hill survived a heart-stopping moment at the last hurdle in the Unibet Hurdle at Cheltenham. The unbeaten champion, known for his effortless jumping, stumbled at the final obstacle, causing a collective gasp from the crowd.
However, Constitution Hill quickly recovered and powered to an easy victory, leaving De Boinville to admit he was more concerned than the horse. "My heart was in my mouth," he said. "He was just bored and not paying attention."
Trainer Nicky Henderson, who missed the incident, was relieved. "He's a good jumper, and these things happen," he said. Owner Michael Buckley, however, found the scare "fun."
Former jockey Barry Geraghty, who played a key role in Constitution Hill's early career, praised the horse's resilience. "It was a split-second thing, but he got to the other side," he said. "He's something special."
This victory sets the stage for Constitution Hill's defense of his Champion Hurdle crown in March.
